September's Natural Remedy is fermented garlic in raw honey.

Fermented garlic in honey is incredibly easy to make and use, and the health benefits are (almost) endless.

Health Benefits of Honey:

·        Antioxidant

·        Antibacterial

·        Contains polyphenols

·        May protect heart from oxidative stress

·        Contains propolis which may improve cholesterol

·        Soothes coughs and sore throats

·        Contains oligosaccharides (prebiotic)

Health Benefits of Garlic

·        Antiviral

·        Antibacterial

·        Anticancer

·        Anti-inflammatory

·        Anti-fungal

·        Has anti-allergic properties

The benefits of fermented garlic and honey together not only contain all the above benefits but also acts as a probiotic because of the fermentation. Fermented garlic and honey can fight against a wealth of illnesses including cancer and can improve digestion and other tummy issues. (Source)

 What you need:

·        Mason Jar

·        Raw unfiltered honey (preferably local)

·        3-4 bulbs of garlic

Method:

·        Peel each garlic clove and place in clean empty mason jar. You can add as much garlic as you want, but 3-4 bulbs should be enough to fill your mason jar at least halfway.

·        Pour the honey into the mason jar over the garlic cloves. Fill about halfway and stop to let the honey settle, then continue filling the jar. This avoids the jar from over- flowing. The cloves will float at the top.

·        Close and tighten the mason jar lid.

Fermentation process:

Allow the garlic to ferment for at least 4 weeks. During the first two weeks of fermentation, open the lid slightly and reclose to allow the jar to “burp” out the extra air once a day. You will also want to turn/flip the jar upside down a few times once a day to coat the cloves that are slightly exposed at the top to avoid mold. Do not shake.

How to use:

However you want! If you feel an illness coming on take one clove of garlic up to three times a day. You can also eat 1-2 cloves of garlic a day as prevention or take a tablespoon of honey to sooth a sore throat. You can also use the honey and/or garlic in dishes (on toast, in dressings, soups etc.).

If you have never made fermented garlic in honey before there are a few things you will notice:

1.        Bubbles during the fermentation process-this is normal.

2.        Overtime the honey will become runnier because it is drawing moisture out of the garlic-this is also normal.

3.        The garlic and honey will darken over time.

This remedy has a long shelf life. You will most likely use it up before the shelf life is up. If there is no mold on the garlic, you’re good to go! Even though it does take a month for the garlic to ferment you can eat it at any time. Do not give to children under the age of 2.

Septembers Bach Flower Remedy: Aspen

To learn more about Bach Flower Remedies, go here.

Aspen type personalities are unique because of their physical manifestation of anxiety and worry from the “unknown.” The Aspen personality appears un-grounded and worries about things they cannot control, understand, or even label. They just worry!

It’s assumed that this worry stems from a more spiritual or astral plane as if they are picking up on energy, they don’t understand which leads them to be superstitious and fear religious subjects and death. They are especially afraid of the dark and experience emotional or even physical fluctuations when in social group gatherings. They tend to be “afraid of their fear” but also fear talking about it.

A transformed Aspen personality will become more grounded and allow them to live more in

“the physical” reducing their fear and anxiety of the unknown. They may even feel drawn to

explore the very subjects that frightened them in the past with a more open and objective mind.
