5 FAQ About Natural Remedies

Updated: Oct 24, 2024

More and more people are beginning to turn to natural remedies for any number of reasons. But this doesn't mean people still don't have questions or skepticism surrounding the topic.

And this is a good thing. You should never start making changes to your health without at least some knowledge of what you're doing, how it can affect you or knowing possible side effects.

So let's dive in.

5 FAQ On Natural Remedies

  1. Are Natural Remedies Safe?

For the most part, yes. BUT, just because something is natural, or comes from the Earth, doesn't mean it's safe for everyone.

It's important to know what your allergies or sensitivities are to avoid any possible reactions. In addition, just because one remedy worked for your friend or family member doesn't necessarily mean it will have the same effect on you. We are all unique and we need to treat ourselves as such.

It's also note-worthy to mention that natural remedies and herbs are reported to have a much less negative impact on our health than pharmaceuticals. If you are wanting to incorporate natural remedies in your life as a form of prevention, start slow. Do your research or talk to a professional. If you are currently suffering from chronic illness or disease, it's always better to consult with a professional first.

2. Are Natural Remedies Scientifically Proven?

Yes! Although there may not be a ton of research, it's still growing. And we know they work from thousands of years of experience. Up until the early 1900's, doctors were mainly naturopaths before Big Pharma took over.

Yes, they may have used shots, performed surgery and used other drugs occasionally, but for the most part their practices were based on natural remedies because that's mainly what they had to work with.

There was also a much lower rate of chronic illnesses.

3. Do Natural Remedies Take Longer to Work?

It depends. And, usually, yes. For example, if you're using essential oils as an after-sun treatment or for bug bite itches, then no, they work pretty quickly.

If you're using them to improve your overall health then yes, and here's why:

The onset of symptoms does not mean the onset of an imbalance. When you start experiencing symptoms, the problem has already been there for months or maybe even years. A natural approach to healing chronic health conditions takes longer because it's repairing and reversing whatever went wrong.

Conventional drugs don't do this, they just keep you from experiencing symptoms, so they really don't work at all when you think about it. In general, natural remedies are more gradual and subtle with sustained improvement without harsh side effects.

4. Can Natural Remedies Treat Serious Conditions?

There will always be those who say no, but if you're asking my opinion, I say absolutely.

Natural remedies range from essential oils, to herbs, to diet and exercise. When dealing with a serious condition, there's no one thing you can or need to do to heal it. Even when treated by an allopathic doctor, they too will give you a laundry list of things you need to do and change to try and change the condition.

Your diet plays a big part in your healing process and is also considered a type of natural remedy for prevention and treatment. Never underestimate the power of proper nutrition.

5. Can Natural Remedies Be Used with Conventional Medicine?

Of course! In fact, more and more doctors are beginning to use natural remedies with their patients. And depending on the state of your health, your primary care physician may want you to also work with other types of health professionals such as an herbalist or dietician.

Healing is a multifaceted approach and health professionals are beginning to see that.
